THE 12CHURCH CHAPTER 2 RESET

10 meetings to re-establish foundations, basic training
and help new groups start on the right track.

Week 1 Notes

*Note: The first week's study is not a classic DBS (Discovery Bible Study). It is based on three foundational passages- Matthew 4.17-25; Matthew 28.16-20; Acts 1.1-9.

Simply read the first passage and ask the question "What does this tell us about the mission of Jesus?" After the passage has been examined from that angle, do the same with the next two. The key points to emphasize from each are

> Matthew 4: Following Jesus implies joining him on mission

> Matthew 28: The core mission is "make disciples" and it happens through going, baptizing (which implies the person has come to repentance and faith) and teaching to obey Jesus.

> Acts 1.8: The essential help of the Holy Spirit in the mission and the fact that it starts where are and wherever we end up.

There should be a video about these passages here shortly.

Here are some Deeper Sharing Questions that you might want to use in your group as people get comfortable sharing. Click to Download.

Note on the two CPR Videos

The two videos to the left and up to the left cover the same topic.
The first, labelled "12Church Micro Training" is shorter and older, but a good summary of the teaching.
The second "Crafting an Effective Evangelism Strategy: The CPR Method" is newer, longer, and would be the one to use if you opt to show the videos to your group as a training. This one is on YouTube so you can access it and show it outside of this page if you prefer.
Or, you may simply want to review them both yourself and then teach the CPR idea verbally to your people.

Week 5 Notes

There is no overview video this week as it's very straight forward:

DBS is on Mark 5.1-20, a very interesting passage that will generate much discussion and possibly questions that cant be answered at the time. Might want to assign someone to do some research and report back next week with the hard questions about the passage. Try to have someone new lead the DBS each week.

Training is about sharing your testimonies.
The training video is quite complete.

For this week you might simply have people share one sentence about the BEFORE, HOW, NOW of their stories and then have them draft more complete testimonies for next week.

Along with leading a DBS and sharing the basic Gospel, having each person share their story based on the principles in the training is one of three major goals for the ten weeks.

Week 6 Notes

This week's DBS is on Luke 18.9-14, the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector. It's a short passage but really works well as a DBS. Don't try to stretch it out further than is natural. Simply allow time for people to respond to the core questions and take some time grappling with applications- the I Will statements.

The training is a very simple one as well, on the "Secret Weapon" of vulnerability. It is not one that can be used at will, but does require a context where you legitimately need some help that a seeker friend or acquaintance can possibly provide. But when you do this, it often moves a relationship to a new level.

The video here is the same one that shows up in Week 1 and highlights all three Secret Weapons. This would be a good time to reemphasize the first one, about being an encourager, and getting some reports of how that is going.

Predictable Objections

to the 12Church Strategy

It seems
too simple.

How can it be this easy?

But I'm not
very spiritual.

And I wouldn't know
where to start.

This is so... different.

It's very unlike church as
I have known it.
