The 12Church Disciple Making Blog/Evangelism/Personal Evangelism Training Checklist

Personal Evangelism Training Checklist

Are You Ready for Personal Evangelism? Use This Simple Checklist

Many Christians want to share their faith, but wonder: am I actually ready to do it well?
That’s where the Personal Evangelism Readiness Checklist comes in.

It helps you evaluate three key areas:
Core Concepts
Personal Preparation
Relational Evangelism

And if you discover gaps, we’ve got training to help.

Core Concepts: Grasping the Big Picture
I understand that the goal of evangelism is to make disciples, not just converts.
That changes evangelism from a one-time event into an ongoing process involving community and growth.

I can clearly explain what a disciple of Jesus is.
A disciple is a committed follower of Jesus, living on mission — not just someone who believes in God.

I understand Jesus' Great Commission in Matthew 28.
The core command is to make disciples — supported by going, baptizing, and teaching them to obey

I seek and experience the direction of the Holy Spirit in evangelism.
We need the Spirit’s power and guidance (Acts 1:8) for our efforts to bear fruit.

Personal Preparation: Am I Personally Ready?

I regularly pray for people in my life who don’t yet follow Jesus.
This builds awareness and readiness to see what God is doing.

I’m actively paying attention to how God may be working in their lives — and I take action.
Watch for open doors and divine opportunities.

I can clearly share the basic gospel message.
Whether through Romans 6:23 or another outline, I know how to present Jesus’ death, resurrection, and the call to follow Him.

I’ve written and practiced sharing my personal faith story.
A short (2-3 minute) story of your journey — with relatable hooks and the gospel embedded — is a powerful tool.

I know how to handle tough questions, even if I don’t know the answer.
It’s okay to say “great question — let me get back to you” while continuing the conversation.

Relational Evangelism: Am I Engaged With Others?

I regularly step outside my comfort zone to build relationships.
Evangelism starts with connections.

I have non-Christian friends and seek genuine friendships.
The gospel moves best along relational bridges.

I know how to discern whether someone is in a cultivating, planting, or reaping stage.
Tailor your approach — from building relationship, to going deeper, to sharing the gospel clearly.

I’m known as an encourager, not a complainer.
Hope-filled people are attractive — and this makes the gospel more compelling.

I’ve been vulnerable and asked for help from both Christians and seekers.
This builds authentic connection and makes others more open to receiving from you.

I offer to pray when others share personal challenges.
This simple act often opens the door for spiritual conversations and for God to work.

Next Steps: Your Evangelism Growth Plan

If you haven’t yet:
Write out your 2-3 minute personal faith story.
Memorize Romans 6:23 or another simple gospel outline.
Practice sharing the gospel with Christian friends.
Start praying daily for a few non-Christian friends.
Pray for and pursue at least one gospel-centered conversation this week — and keep going.
